Perceptive article. Follows on well from other quality journalism in the FT Weekend I've just read. How the hell did we let things get to this state. I'm 67 and up to 2000 I felt that the world was more-or-less on the right trajectory and had been since 1945. BUT: since then it seems things have gone so absolutely pear-shaped that I'm scared for all of us and the future my generation is leaving for those that follow. At the heart of our troubles I truly believe is the rapid development of the internet and our inabilty to manage it. Worst of all its exploitation by the worst set of world leaders I've seen in my lifetime. And there's an ocean of evidence to back-up that claim. Okay: I'm being melodramatic! And mankind has the knack of surviving—we have come through worse. But so much of this, as always, is so effing unnecessary if people would only get their priorities right and just do the right thing. It's not rocket science! But for some reason we keep on ruining things for ourselves and most of the time that's down to a small entity of greedy people, lacking in good will, and worst of all: simply ignorant! Compounded by one's inabilty to do anything about it except live one's own life as best one can. Namaste!
